History

The predecessor of Tallinn Pedagogical College was the Institute of Household Economy, a private educational institution founded by the Estonian Women’s Association in 1935, in which three different branches were developed: social care, child care and household economy.

  • Since 1940 the school is financed from the state budget.
  • From 1950 to 1976 only pre-school teachers were trained.
  • 1976-2004 operated the music department preparing the music teachers for the pre-schools and basic schools.
  • 1982-1999 the primary school teachers were trained, incl teachers for schools teaching in Russian.
  • 1990 Social Work Department was reopened.
  • 1991 Pre-School Education Department was opened.
  • 1992 Youth Work Department was opened.
